It turned out to be a disappointing bank holiday Monday for the Stags as they crashed to a 4-1 defeat to Grimsby in a match which also saw Gary Roberts dismissed for a second bookable offence.
The hosts lead on 34 when Frankie Artus fired in from the edge of the box, ten minutes later Jake Speight uppended Joe Colbeck in the box, Greg Pearson doubled the hosts lead from the spot.
Colbeck then trebble the Mariners lead on the hour mark before Pearson added his second of the afternoon 15 minutes later, heading in from a corner.
Gary Roberts got his marching orders for a foul on former Stags favourite Craig Disley before Matt Rhead grabbed a consolation with five minutes remaining.
Matt Green was the man of the moment as the talisman again scored the only goal of the game as the Stags saw off newly promoted Hyde at the One Call Stadium.
Green's 5th minute strike was enough to see off the Blue Square North Champions who offered little in front of goal, Stags in truth should have had more with Matt Rhead, Lindon Meikle and Anthony Howell all coming close throughout the game.

Lindon Meikle was the man of the moment yesterday as he netted twice to give the Stags their first win of the season, defeating Kidderminster Harriers 3-2 at Aggborough.
Paul Cox made four changes to the side after two consecutive defeats but was again left wondering when things would ever get better as Harriers netted their first goal of the season on six minutes as Jack Byrne nodded in Marvin Johnson's pinpoint corner.
The Stags eventually rallied and replied two minutes before the break, Matt Green tapped in from close range after Danny Lewis could only palm away a forceful Matt Rhead header.
De-ja-vou then followed as Marvin Johnson's deflected shot put Kidderminster back infront six minutes into the second half, however it was a case of cometh the hour cometh the Stags as they dug deep to level on 60 minutes through Meikle, following good work between Rhead and Green.
Substitute Nick Wright then combined with Meikle with 12 minutes remaining, the latter finishing emphatically on his left foot to put Mansfield ahead and ultimately win the match.

Paul Cox was left fuming as his Stags side crashed to a second successive as the start to the 2012-13 campaign continues to develop into a poor one.
This time it was Gateshead the victors, Liam Hatch netting the opener with 9minutes gone. Paul Cox changed from 4-3-3 to 4-4-2 replacing Jamie Tolley with Jake Speight on 16 minutes and saw his side level a minute later when Luke Jones nodded in a deep George Pilkington free kick.
The 4-4-2 saw Stags more solid however to silly mistakes in the second half saw Nathan Fisher and Chris Bush put Gateshead into a 3-1 lead. Lee Beevers then picked up a second yellow card reducing the Stags to ten men with seven remaining - Fisher netted his second of the night two minutes later.
A 4-1 defeat puts Stags second bottom of the table on goal difference.

Mansfield Town kicked off there 2012-13 Season with defeat to Newport County yesterday afternoon at the One Call Stadium.
Poor defending saw the Stags trail by two goals at the break however a sublime fight back after the half time whistle saw Jake Speight and Matt Green level things up. The Stags defending continued to be poor however and Newport grabbed a further two through ex Stags Aaron O'Connor and Jefferson Louis.
Jake Speight then struck again with two minutes remaining to set up a tense finish however time was against the Stags who tried, but ultimately failed to grab an equalizer, meaning they fell to their first defeat of the 2012-13 campaign.

Mansfield Town ended their pre-season preparations at the One Call Stadium today in defeat as League Two Rotherham United ran out 3-2 winners in a close match.
Steve Evans' League Two outfit we're strong and took the lead in the 25th minute as Kari Arnason smashed home from the edge of the box, the millers grabbed a second twelve minutes later through Daniel Nardiello.
After the break Lee Stevenson tucked home a Matt Green pass to give the Stags some hope however Rotherham added a third through substitute Mark Bradley with 75 minutes on the clock. From the restart Lindon Meikle provided for Green who made it 3-2 with a neat finish however despite late chances, it was the Millers who kept there lead and ran out winner.
