Paul Cox was left fuming as his Stags side crashed to a second successive as the start to the 2012-13 campaign continues to develop into a poor one.
This time it was Gateshead the victors, Liam Hatch netting the opener with 9minutes gone. Paul Cox changed from 4-3-3 to 4-4-2 replacing Jamie Tolley with Jake Speight on 16 minutes and saw his side level a minute later when Luke Jones nodded in a deep George Pilkington free kick.
The 4-4-2 saw Stags more solid however to silly mistakes in the second half saw Nathan Fisher and Chris Bush put Gateshead into a 3-1 lead. Lee Beevers then picked up a second yellow card reducing the Stags to ten men with seven remaining - Fisher netted his second of the night two minutes later.
A 4-1 defeat puts Stags second bottom of the table on goal difference.
