Mansfield Town’s new look side made a five star impact, in their first pre-season friendly – as they comfortably beat a Maltese FA Select XI 5-0 as part of their pre-season tour in Malta.
Steve Evans put out two sides for on-looking Stags’ fans – who got a glimpse of the new additions in action before the side return to the UK next week. It was an old face however who got the ball rolling, Danny Rose opening the scoring in the first half before a new-face in Paul Digby put Steve Evans side two-goals up at half-time. Despite a chance to the entire eleven, it was as you were for Stags who played as the sun went down in the backdrop with the same intent – goals. An old but new face got Mansfield’s third in Will Atkinson, before fellow newbie Lee Angol added two more, including one from the penalty spot. It could have been six for Stags and three for Angol, but he saw a late penalty saved – the Stags settling for a five-nil victory.
